In keeping with our mission of providing a safe environment for the residents of Porter and Mason Townships, Porter Fire Department has imposed a BAN on ALL OPEN BURNING. Until further notice the residents of Shady Lane from Bellows Rd. to the end., and all public and private roads originating from Shady Lane. in Porter Twp. May not kindle an open fire of any type except for LP and charcoal cooking grills. Common household waste (paper, and wood products) as well as brush and leaves and other clearing materials may NOT be burned.
Any and ALL existing burning permits in this area are hereby revoked.
The authority for the ban in effect is listed below, violations shall carry a fine of $250 per incident.
This ban shall remain in effect until lifted by the Fire Department. This ban has been imposed to protect life and property in the construction areas due to restricted travel of fire vehicles on the roadway. Section 3, Paragraph 307.2.2
307.2.2 Prohibited open burning. Open burning that will be offensive or objectionable due to smoke or odor emissions when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous shall be prohibited. The code official is authorized to order the extinguishment by the permit holder or the fire department of open burning which creates or adds to a hazardous or objectionable situation.
